Andre Dickens is the 61st Mayor of Atlanta, sworn into office in January 2022. A native Atlantan and product of Atlanta Public Schools, he has dedicated his career to expanding opportunities, equity, and prosperity for all residents of the city. Before becoming mayor, Dickens served eight years as an at-large member of the Atlanta City Council and worked as an entrepreneur in both the private and nonprofit sectors, as well as a leader in Atlanta’s tech community. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Public Administration from Georgia State University. As mayor, Dickens oversees the largest budget in Atlanta’s history, managing billions in general, enterprise, trust, and pension funds. Under his leadership, the city achieved a historic AAA bond rating, the highest ever for Atlanta. He has prioritized being a model employer by ensuring annual pay increases for city employees and establishing a $17.50 minimum wage. His administration focuses on public safety, economic development, and community support, with initiatives such as the establishment of the Nightlife Division to reduce crime in high-risk nightlife areas and the installation of 30,000 energy-efficient LED streetlights through the Light Up the Night program. These efforts have contributed to a significant reduction in homicides—about 21-26% since 2022—and improved neighborhood safety. Dickens has also invested in youth development through programs like the Midnight Basketball League, Summer Youth Employment, and Early Childhood Development grants, correlating with Atlanta’s highest graduation rates in its public schools. He has worked to empower neighborhoods, combat homelessness, and foster government integrity. His vision for Atlanta is to be a safe, healthy, connected city with inclusive upward mobility and full participation for all residents. Outside of politics, Dickens enjoys spending time with his daughter, attending church, experiencing live music, traveling, and supporting Atlanta’s sports teams[1][2][3][4][5][6].
